Kaliachak Violence Mastermind Arrested! High Court Lawyer Caught at Bagdogra Airport

In a major breakthrough, the West Bengal Police arrested Mofakkerul Islam, the prime instigator of the Kaliachak violence, at Bagdogra Airport while he was attempting to flee to Bengaluru. ADG (North Bengal) K. Jayaraman confirmed that the accused, a practicing advocate at the Calcutta High Court, faces three specific charges related to the incident.
Mofakkerul, a former AIMIM candidate from Itahar, is a popular social media figure known for his provocative opinions on sensitive issues. Investigations suggest that the attack on judicial officers at the Kaliachak BDO office was a planned provocation.
So far, 35 individuals have been arrested and 19 cases registered. The court has expressed grave concern over the incident, terming it a direct assault on the “authority of the judiciary.” Taking a stern view of the security lapse, the court has sought explanations from the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and DGP. Meanwhile, all judicial officers in the region have been provided with CAPF security. The arrested accused have been remanded to 10 days of police custody for further interrogation.
