Trinamool Congress heavyweight and sitting MLA from Rasbehari, Debasish Kumar, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday for the second time in connection with a high-profile land scam. Kumar reached the CGO Complex in Salt Lake around 11:30 AM, following a prior round of questioning on March 30.

The central agency is investigating allegations of illegal encroachment on government and private lands using forged documents, followed by unauthorized constructions. The ED’s net tightened after a recent raid on the top brass of a private firm, ‘Bengal Energy,’ where incriminating documents reportedly bearing Kumar’s name were seized.

Sources indicate that the probe is focusing on the financial nexus between the private firm and the MLA, as well as the alleged land grabbing activities in the city. As the election fever peaks, the repeated summoning of a key candidate has put the ruling Trinamool Congress on the defensive in the prestigious Rasbehari constituency.
