Law & Order Out of My Hands, Mamata Banerjee Reacts to Mothabari Violence Amid NIA Probe Threats

The political atmosphere in West Bengal has turned volatile following a day of violent clashes in Mothabari, Malda. What started as a protest by local women on Wednesday morning escalated into a battlefield by nightfall. In a shocking turn of events, a frenzied mob surrounded judicial officers, who could only be rescued late at night under heavy escort by Central Paramilitary Forces.

The BJP has held Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee directly responsible for the unrest. State President Sukanta Majumdar alleged that the CM’s recent speeches—where she urged women to “stand up” and “keep men in the back while leading from the front”—acted as a catalyst for the violence. “It’s a well-planned script by the CM,” Majumdar remarked.

Refuting the charges, Mamata Banerjee stated at a rally in Sagardighi that she no longer controls the state’s law and order as it is under the Election Commission’s jurisdiction. However, she warned citizens against taking the law into their own hands, noting that central agencies like the NIA or CBI could intervene and make arrests. As the war of words intensifies, the Mothabari incident has become a focal point of the ongoing electoral battle.
