Suri Turns Into Battlefield! IC Shailendra Upadhyay Injured as Mob Pelts Stones Over Graveyard Dispute

Violence erupted in Birbhum’s Suri on Wednesday night amid the ongoing election atmosphere. The Inspector-in-Charge (IC) of Suri Police Station, Shailendra Upadhyay, was critically injured after being pelted with stones while trying to pacify a mob in Kankhuria village. Upadhyay, who sustained serious head and ear injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at the Suri Sadar Hospital.
The conflict began when a contractor started construction work on graveyard land. During excavation, several human remains and bones were reportedly unearthed, triggering massive outrage among the villagers. The locals held the workers hostage and staged a violent protest. When IC Upadhyay reached the spot with a large contingent of police and central forces, the villagers launched a coordinated stone-pelting attack, forcing the police to retreat and damaging several official vehicles.
To bring the situation under control, a massive deployment of the Combat Force and Central Paramilitary forces has been made in the area. Birbhum SP Suryapratap Yadav stated, “We are identifying the attackers through video footage, and no one will be spared.” Police have already detained 14 individuals in connection with the assault. Currently, construction has been halted, and forces are conducting a route march to maintain law and order.
