“Better Surveillance Was Needed” SC Rips Into Administration for Harassment of Judicial Officers

The Supreme Court of India has taken a stern stand against the harassment of judicial officers in Kaliachak, Malda. In a significant move on Thursday, the apex court issued show-cause notices to the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Malda. Expressing deep displeasure, Justice Joymalya Bagchi remarked that the administration failed in providing adequate surveillance and security.

The matter was brought to the attention of the Bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi on Thursday morning, following the unfortunate incident on Wednesday night. The Supreme Court expressed extreme irritation at the administrative lapse and has formally sought a detailed report from the West Bengal Home Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP). The top court’s intervention signals a zero-tolerance policy toward any threat to the safety of the judiciary.
