Sector 5 to Kavi Subhash This Year? RVNL Gets Green Signal to Complete Final 366-Meter Stretch!

The long-standing deadlock over the completion of Kolkata Metro’s Orange Line has finally ended following a stern reprimand from the Supreme Court. The West Bengal administration has granted permission for traffic blocks at Chingrighata starting May 15, allowing RVNL to bridge the critical 366-meter gap.
This specific stretch is vital for connecting Beleghata and Gour Kishore Ghosh metro stations. The project had been in limbo since December 2024 due to legal disputes and lack of administrative support. During the hearing, a Bench led by Justice Surya Kant slammed the state government, questioning its priority between festive celebrations and infrastructure development.
Following the apex court’s intervention, the Kolkata Police issued the work permit on Wednesday afternoon. RVNL aims to finish the girder placement and track work by mid-June, before the monsoon sets in. If successful, commuters can expect the full stretch from Kavi Subhash to Sector 5 to be operational by the end of this year.
