Major Changes in PAN Card Rules! Additional Documents Mandatory from April 1st

Planning to apply for a new PAN card or update your existing one? Be aware that the Income Tax Department has introduced significant changes to PAN card regulations effective from April 1, 2026. The traditional application process has been overhauled, and new forms have been introduced to streamline identity verification.

Applicants must now use the newly launched ‘Form 93’, replacing the old ‘Form 49A’. For Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), ‘Form 95’ has been introduced in place of ‘Form 49AA’. A critical update in the documentation is that Aadhaar alone will no longer suffice. Applicants must now provide additional supporting documents such as a Birth Certificate, Voter ID, Driving License, or Passport. Furthermore, it is now mandatory for the name on the PAN card to exactly match the records on the Aadhaar card.

Step-by-Step Application Process:

  • Visit the official NSDL or UTIITSL application portal.
  • Select the new ‘Form 93’.
  • Enter personal details including Date of Birth, Mobile Number, and Email ID.
  • Complete Aadhaar-based authentication.
  • Upload the required documents for identity and age proof.
  • Pay the application fee and save the system-generated acknowledgement number for future reference.
