“Voter First, Vote Later!” Massive Protests Erupt in Malda Over Voter List Anomalies

Political tensions have escalated once again in Malda as protesters blocked National Highway 12 (NH-12) near the Narayanpur BSF camp. Following the recent unrest in Kaliachak, the district saw a fresh wave of agitation on Wednesday morning. Hundreds of locals, carrying national flags and placards, took to the streets to protest against alleged discrepancies in the electoral rolls.
Chanting the slogan “First Voter, Then Vote,” the demonstrators claimed that the names of several legitimate voters were arbitrarily removed from the list. This blockade has paralyzed communication between North and South Bengal, leaving thousands of vehicles, including essential supply trucks and passenger buses, stranded for hours. The disruption on NH-12, a vital artery for the state, has caused significant economic and logistical distress. While a large police contingent has been deployed to clear the highway, the protesters remain steadfast, demanding the immediate reinstatement of the missing names before the upcoming polls.
