Scorching Heat Ahead! Mercury to Hit 40°C in Bengal as Monsoon-like Rains Depart

The spell of pleasant rain has ended, making way for a blistering summer in West Bengal. According to the Alipore Weather Office, temperatures are set to soar this April, with the mercury likely to hit the 40°C mark in the western districts. Kolkata is expected to witness a sharp rise, reaching 37°C by Saturday, accompanied by high humidity that will increase physical discomfort.
The weather department has issued alerts for “uncomfortable weather” starting Thursday for districts including Howrah, South 24 Parganas, West Midnapore, Bankura, and Purulia. On Friday, Birbhum and Kolkata will also come under this advisory. While there is a slim possibility of scattered rainfall between Sunday and Tuesday in South Bengal, the intense dryness and heat will dominate the coming days.
In contrast, North Bengal continues to see intermittent showers. Districts like Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar may experience gusty winds of 30–40 kmph alongside scattered rain. However, even in the north, temperatures are expected to rise by 3–5°C on Friday and Saturday before another round of thundershowers arrives on Sunday, bringing relief to all northern districts.
