Shield Against Drones! Indian Army to Procure Next-Gen Air Defense Gun Systems

The Ministry of Defence has initiated the procurement of the New Generation Air Defence Gun System (ADG-NG) to safeguard Indian skies from drones, fighter jets, and missiles. A Request for Information (RFI) has been issued, emphasizing that at least 50% of the system must be developed using indigenous technology.
In light of changing warfare tactics—where low-signature electric drones pose a greater threat than traditional aircraft—this system is designed to provide robust protection for vital areas. The RFI specifically highlights experiences from ‘Operation Sindhu’ on the western border, where enemy drone swarms were used for surveillance and attacks.
The ADG-NG will be a mobile, all-weather system capable of tracking and destroying targets automatically using an integrated Electro-Optical Fire Control System (EOFCS). With a range of over 4,000 meters and the ability to hit targets moving at 500 meters per second, it can neutralize helicopters, cruise missiles, and even micro-light aircraft. The army is seeking smart programmable ammunition with a firing rate of 300 rounds per minute. Interested suppliers are required to submit detailed information by June 11.
