The political heat in Bhawanipore has reached a boiling point as BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari intensified his campaign ahead of filing his official nomination this Thursday. Taking his battle directly to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s home turf, Adhikari engaged in a massive door-to-door campaign, where he made a sensational claim about having “exposed” the Chief Minister’s secret winning formula.

While interacting with residents across various wards of Bhawanipore, Adhikari alleged that Mamata Banerjee’s electoral successes in this constituency were not solely based on popularity but on a “calculated system of intimidation and administrative bias.” Addressing the media, he stated, “I have decoded the secret formula that has kept the TMC in power here—it involves tactical booth capturing and suppressing the opposition’s voice. But this time, with the Election Commission’s vigilance, their tactics will fail.”

Adhikari, the giant-killer of Nandigram, seemed determined to replicate his success in South Kolkata. His campaign focused on reaching out to diverse linguistic communities and emphasizing that the “reign of fear” would end in this election. On the other hand, the Trinamool Congress dismissed Adhikari’s rhetoric as an act of desperation. Senior TMC leaders asserted that the people of Bhawanipore have an unbreakable bond with Mamata Banerjee and that Adhikari’s claims were merely a strategy to stay relevant in the headlines. As the nomination day arrives, the high-octane battle for Bhawanipore has officially turned into a prestige fight for both the ruling party and the opposition.
