60 Lakh Names Under Scrutiny! CEO Breaks Silence on Form 6 Rules Before 2026 Elections

Amidst the high-pitched political drama surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in West Bengal, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has finally stepped in to clarify the status and procedure of ‘Form 6.’ The statement comes as a relief to millions of citizens who were confused by conflicting reports regarding the deletion of names and the necessity of re-registering. The CEO emphasized that while Form 6 remains the primary tool for new inclusions, there is no need for panic among existing valid voters.

The controversy erupted after data revealed that over 63 lakh names were deleted during the recent revision process, while nearly 60 lakh names remained “under adjudication” or scrutiny. The CEO clarified that these deletions were part of a cleanup exercise to remove duplicate, deceased, and shifted voters to ensure a “pure and transparent” electoral roll. For those whose names are under adjudication, specific verification processes are being followed, and they do not necessarily need to file Form 6 unless they are applying for a fresh entry or moving to a different constituency.

To boost transparency, the Election Commission has announced 100% webcasting for all polling stations in the upcoming 2026 Assembly Polls. The CEO urged citizens, especially the youth and those who find their names missing from the final roll, to use Form 6 via the official Voter Service Portal or the mobile app. “Our goal is to ensure that no eligible voter is left behind,” the CEO stated, dismissing allegations of political bias. With the July 31 deadline approaching, the administration is focusing on a massive awareness drive to help citizens navigate the Form 6 submission process correctly and secure their democratic rights.
