Voter Enrollment Row in Bengal: CEO Dismisses TMC’s Claims, Says Form 6 Process is Smooth & Transparent

As the heat for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections continues to rise, the controversy surrounding the voter list update has taken center stage. Following a formal complaint by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) alleging “deliberate obstructions” in the submission of ‘Form 6’ (application for new voters), West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Agarwal has come forward to clear the air. In a decisive statement, the CEO asserted that there are no administrative hurdles or bans on submitting Form 6 and that the process remains open for all eligible citizens.

The TMC had recently expressed concerns that booth-level officers (BLOs) in several districts were refusing to accept applications, potentially disenfranchising thousands of first-time voters. Responding to these allegations, Manoj Agarwal stated, “The process of including names in the electoral roll is a continuous one. There is absolutely no bar on submitting Form 6.” He emphasized that citizens can apply both online and offline without any fear of rejection as long as they meet the eligibility criteria.

The CEO’s clarification comes at a crucial time when the political climate is polarized over the issue of “illegal voters” versus “legitimate enrollments.” While the BJP has been pushing for a clean-up of the rolls, the TMC is keen on ensuring that no pro-government voter is left out. By making this public statement, Agarwal has signaled that the Election Commission is operating independently of political influence. He further assured that any specific grievances regarding local officials would be investigated promptly to ensure that the 2026 elections are conducted with the highest degree of integrity.
