Clarifying the intent behind the meeting, Salim stated that he was attending a rally in Jadavpur when he received word that Humayun Kabir wished to meet him. “I heard he was there and wanted to see me. He is organizing a public rally on January 29 and wanted to extend an invitation to everyone. I told him there was no need for him to come to me; I could go myself,” Salim explained, downplaying any immediate talks of a formal alliance.
