Amidst the escalating conflict in the Middle East, India has made a significant move in its defense strategy by planning to export its indigenously developed Next-Generation Missile Vessels (NGMV). Armed with the fearsome BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, these warships are set to establish India as a reliable global defense exporter while strengthening its influence in the Indian Ocean and South-East Asia, including nations like Indonesia.

Weighing approximately 1,450 tons, the NGMV is a compact yet highly lethal platform. It features 8 BrahMos missiles capable of precise long-range strikes and is equipped with 24 VL-SRSAM missiles for aerial defense against drones and incoming projectiles. Its advanced stealth design makes it exceptionally effective for operations in high-tension zones like the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, where radar invisibility is crucial.

Cochin Shipyard Limited is currently building six such vessels at a cost of ₹9,804 crore, with deliveries expected to commence in 2027. As global naval requirements shift toward smaller, faster, and more cost-effective strike platforms due to the ongoing Middle East instability, India is seizing the opportunity to fill this gap. By offering high-tech offensive capabilities at a competitive price, India is transforming regional instability into a strategic opportunity for its defense industry.
