No Respite for Middle Class, Gold Touches Record Highs in Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai

The final day of March has brought a heavy blow to middle-class consumers as gold prices witnessed a sharp spike across India this Tuesday (March 31). In Kolkata, the price of 22-carat gold jumped by ₹950 per 10 grams, reaching ₹1,36,850. The premium 24-carat gold saw an even steeper rise of ₹1,030, settling at a record ₹1,49,290 per 10 grams.
City-wise Breakdown: The surge was mirrored in Delhi and Jaipur, where 24-carat gold is now retailing at ₹1,49,440. Mumbai and Hyderabad followed the trend with rates identical to Kolkata. Bucking the national trend, Chennai was the only major city to see a dip, with 24-carat gold falling by ₹1,090 to rest at ₹1,49,130. As the wedding season looms, this unprecedented hike in gold prices continues to pose a significant challenge for retail buyers and investors alike.
