The tug-of-war between the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the administrative machinery in West Bengal has reached the corridors of the Calcutta High Court. Following the ECI’s massive order to transfer 267 officials—including BDOs, OCs, and ICs—in a single day, a petition has been filed challenging the move. The Division Bench of the Chief Justice has granted permission for the case, with the hearing likely to take place on Tuesday.

The petitioner argues that such wholesale transfers without specific allegations of bias or misconduct are arbitrary and disrupt public services.
