Blow to TMC Mid-Campaign! Heavyweight Candidate Debasish Kumar Appears Before ED in Land Scam Probe

In a major development just weeks before the first phase of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday summoned TMC’s heavyweight candidate from the Rashbehari constituency, Debasish Kumar. The MLA and Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) member arrived at the CGO Complex around 11 AM, carrying a heap of documents for questioning in connection with an alleged land-grabbing scam.
According to agency sources, Kumar’s name surfaced during an ongoing investigation into businessman Amit Gangopadhyay, who is accused of creating forged documents for disputed properties and selling them at exorbitant rates with the help of municipal officials. The ED is probing whether Kumar used his influence within the KMC to facilitate these illegal transactions. While the TMC has slammed the move as “politically motivated” to hinder their poll campaign, the BJP has claimed that the “law is taking its own course” against corruption.
