‘The CM is Personally Threatening Voters’: BJP Files Explosive Complaint with Election Commission Against Mamata

The political climate in West Bengal has reached a boiling point as the state gears up for the 2026 Assembly Elections. In a major development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) with a stinging complaint against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The BJP has alleged that the TMC supremo is personally visiting households to “intimidate and threaten” voters, a move they claim is a desperate attempt to influence the upcoming polls.
A delegation of BJP leaders met with the Election Commission in New Delhi to submit a formal memorandum. They alleged that the Chief Minister is misusing her official position to create an atmosphere of fear among the electorate. “It is unheard of for a sitting Chief Minister to go door-to-door and use provocative language against those who might vote for the opposition,” a BJP spokesperson stated. The party has requested the EC to ensure the safety of voters and deployment of adequate central forces.
The friction primarily stems from the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. While Mamata Banerjee has been staging protests against the alleged deletion of names from the voter list, the BJP has counter-attacked by claiming that the CM is spreading misinformation and intimidating officials. The BJP’s complaint includes reported instances where the CM supposedly warned citizens of consequences if they did not align with her party’s narrative.
The Election Commission has acknowledged the complaint and assured a thorough investigation into the alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct. As the war of words intensifies, political analysts believe this is just the beginning of a prolonged legal and tactical battle between the two arch-rivals. All eyes are now on the EC to see if any restrictions will be placed on the Chief Minister’s campaign activities.
