“Will Withdraw Candidate & Won’t Ask for Votes!” Abhishek Banerjee’s Bold Dare to Modi-Shah

The political landscape of West Bengal has reached a boiling point as Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has thrown an unprecedented challenge at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. In a fiery speech during an election rally, Banerjee declared that he would withdraw his party’s candidate and stop campaigning altogether if the BJP-led central government could disprove his claims regarding the withholding of funds for Bengal.

The core of Abhishek’s challenge lies in the alleged non-payment of dues under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and other central schemes. Addressing the crowd, the Diamond Harbour MP dared the “double-engine” leadership in Delhi to release a ‘White Paper’ detailing the funds allocated to Bengal for housing in the last two years. “I challenge PM Modi and Amit Shah—if you can prove with facts that even a single paisa was given to Bengal for Awas Yojana in the last two years, I will not only stop asking for votes but will also withdraw the TMC candidate from the fray,” he thundered.

Banerjee’s “all-or-nothing” stance is seen as a strategic move to corner the BJP on the issue of ‘central deprivation,’ which has become a major poll plank for the TMC. He further added that unlike the leaders from Delhi, he does not speak without facts and is ready to quit politics if his allegations are found to be false. By putting his political career and candidates on the line, Abhishek aims to send a strong message of conviction to the electorate.

The BJP was quick to respond, with state leaders claiming that the funds were stopped due to massive corruption and the state government’s failure to provide accountability for previous allocations. They dismissed Abhishek’s remarks as a “desperate publicity stunt” to hide the failures of the Mamata Banerjee administration. Nevertheless, this direct challenge has shifted the focus of the election from general rhetoric to a battle of documentation and financial records, making it the most talked-about development in the current poll cycle.
