Invisible to Radars! DRDO Gears Up to Test ‘Shaurya NG’ Hypersonic Missile

India is set to bolster its strategic strike capabilities as DRDO prepares for the trial of the Shaurya NG (Next Generation) missile. This surface-to-surface hypersonic missile is specifically designed to bypass advanced enemy air defense systems. Traveling at speeds exceeding Mach 7 (approx. 2.4 km/s), it hits its target with lightning precision, leaving no room for interception.

Unlike traditional ballistic missiles, Shaurya NG follows a quasi-ballistic trajectory within the atmosphere, allowing it to perform high-speed maneuvers using its fins. To counter the “plasma shield” effect caused by extreme speeds, DRDO has equipped it with a sophisticated multi-mode seeker (IIR & Active Radar). With a range of 700 to 1,000 km and a “Cold Launch” canister system, this missile can be deployed from a mobile launcher in just 5 minutes and remain combat-ready for up to 15 years without maintenance.
