“EC Dancing to BJP’s Tunes!” TMC MP Saayoni Ghosh Lashes Out at Election Commission Over Observer Appointments

TMC MP Saayoni Ghosh has intensified the attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections. During a press conference at TMC Bhavan on Thursday, Saayoni openly accused the Commission of acting under the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Her primary grievance centered around the appointment of four General Observers, whom she labeled as biased and legally compromised.
Displaying photos of the specific observers appointed for constituencies like Bongaon South and Gazole, Saayoni questioned the ECI’s vetting process. “Why are individuals with alleged links to the BJP or those facing corruption charges being sent to Bengal as observers? Is the ECI working for a fair election or fulfilling a secret mandate from Delhi?” she asked. She claimed that it is paradoxical for one arm of the central government to accuse an officer of graft while another—the ECI—gives them a clean chit to oversee crucial elections.
Accompanied by State Minister Bratya Basu, Saayoni asserted that the TMC would not tolerate any administrative overreach that favors the opposition. Meanwhile, the BJP dismissed the allegations as “baseless,” stating that the ECI is an independent body and TMC’s complaints reflect their fear of losing the popular mandate. The vocal protest by the TMC MP signals a rough road ahead for the Election Commission as it navigates the highly polarized political landscape of West Bengal in 2026.
