‘Encounters in UP-Style Coming to Bengal!’ Dilip Ghosh Sparks Row with Explosive Warning

As the political temperature rises ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh has stirred a massive controversy with his “encounter” remarks in Kharagpur. Speaking at a campaign rally in West Midnapore, Ghosh warned that if the BJP comes to power, it will adopt Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s “Encounter Model” to deal with criminals and biased police officials.

Addressing a gathering of party workers, Ghosh adopted a defiant tone, stating, “Some miscreants and police officers think they are above the law. Let them be warned—times are changing. If you continue to harass the common people, cars will start flipping in Bengal too, just like in UP. We will not hesitate to resort to encounters to straighten those who don’t follow the law.” His remarks were aimed at local miscreants allegedly protected by the ruling party.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) was quick to hit back, accusing Ghosh of inciting violence and undermining the judiciary. TMC leaders stated that the BJP is resorting to “threat culture” because they have no real developmental agenda to offer the people of Bengal. While the ruling party plans to move the Election Commission over these inflammatory remarks, Ghosh remains unapologetic, maintaining that “strict measures” are necessary to restore order in the state. This verbal duel has turned Kharagpur into a political battlefield, with security agencies keeping a close watch on the situation.
