Ram Navami 2026: West Bengal Under Heavy Security; Special Surveillance in Howrah and Hooghly

As West Bengal gears up for Ram Navami celebrations on March 26, 2026, the state administration has implemented a multi-tier security blanket to prevent any communal tension. Following the orders of the Calcutta High Court, special focus is being maintained on Howrah, Hooghly, and Barrackpore. Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya has permitted processions only under strict conditions to ensure public harmony.

Key Court Directives:

  • Weaponry Ban: Brandishing of any real weapons or sticks is strictly prohibited. Only symbolic items made of PVC are allowed.
  • Participation Cap: Processions must not exceed 500 participants at any given point in time.
  • Scheduled Timing: To prevent clashes, specific time slots have been allotted. For instance, in certain parts of Howrah, one organization is permitted between 8:30 AM and 1:00 PM, while the VHP rally is scheduled for 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
  • Strict Monitoring: Only one vehicle per rally (for the tableau/idol) is permitted. No DJ systems or inflammatory slogans are allowed.

Administrative Measures: Drones have been deployed to monitor high-rise rooftops in sensitive zones. Large contingents of state police, along with the Rapid Action Force (RAF), have been stationed across the state. The administration has warned organizers that any deviation from the court-approved route or timing will lead to immediate legal consequences.
