Within 72 hours of a fatal lift accident, R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital is once again at the center of a major controversy. On Monday (March 23, 2026), 45-year-old Biswajit Samanta died after he was allegedly forced to walk to a public “Sulabh” toilet outside the Trauma Care unit because the internal facilities were locked for renovation. CCTV footage from 4:55 AM shows the patient struggling to walk alone. Atin Ghosh, a member of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti, has termed it a “inhumane act” and questioned why the patient wasn’t allowed to use the staff toilets within the building. Police have registered an unnatural death case and are investigating the timeline of the incident.
