Big Change in LPG Cylinders! 10kg Gas Instead of 14.2kg? Here’s What the Center is Planning

Amid the escalating energy crisis in West Asia, the Indian government and state-run oil marketing companies are considering a significant structural change to domestic LPG distribution. Reports suggest that the standard 14.2kg LPG cylinder might soon carry only 10kg of gas. This “rationing” strategy aims to stretch the existing fuel stocks to serve a larger number of households as import costs skyrocket due to the Iran-Israel conflict.

The proposed shift to 10kg of gas per cylinder is also intended to make the cylinders lighter and more portable for elderly users and women. While it is expected that the price per refill will decrease proportionally, clarity on the subsidy structure is still awaited. Experts believe this move is a tactical response to ensure that no household goes without cooking gas during this period of high international volatility. An official announcement regarding the price and implementation timeline is expected later this week.
