“EC is an Extension of BJP!” Kalyan Banerjee Blasts Commission Over Transfer of Top Officials

Senior Trinamool Congress leader and MP Kalyan Banerjee launched a blistering attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) following its decision to transfer West Bengal’s Chief Secretary and Home Secretary. Expressing strong resentment, Banerjee claimed that the move is “politically motivated” and aimed at destabilizing the state administration right before the crucial assembly elections.

Speaking at a public gathering, Kalyan Banerjee did not mince words, stating, “The Election Commission has ceased to be an independent body; it is functioning like a wing of the BJP. Removing top IAS officers who are integral to the state’s governance is an attempt to give an unfair advantage to the saffron camp.” He further questioned why West Bengal is being singled out for such high-profile administrative overhauls while other states remain untouched.

The veteran leader argued that such abrupt transfers disrupt the coordination of government machinery and undermine the federal structure of the Constitution. “You can change the officers, but you cannot change the mind of the people of Bengal. This conspiracy will backfire on the BJP,” Banerjee added. While the TMC sees this as an act of vendetta, the opposition parties have lauded the ECI’s decision as a necessary step toward ensuring free and fair polling in the state. The removal of the state’s top bureaucrats has now emerged as a major flashpoint in the ongoing pre-poll political drama.
