Voter List Shake-up! Up to 24 Lakh Names Likely to be Scrapped; First List Out Today

The Election Commission is set to release the first supplementary voter list today, marking a massive cleanup in the electoral rolls. According to sources, around 10 lakh names are expected to be dropped in the first phase alone. With nearly 32 lakh names still under verification, the total number of exclusions could reach a staggering 24 lakh. The second supplementary list is likely to be published this Friday.

For those whose names have been struck off, the Commission has established 19 specialized tribunals headed by retired judges to address appeals. Citizens can file their grievances online through the official portal ecinet.eci.gov.in or via the ‘ECI Net’ mobile application. Offline applications can be submitted directly at the District Magistrate (DM) or Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) offices.

Anticipating a huge rush and potential unrest at administrative offices, the state government has issued a high alert to all District Magistrates. Local authorities have been instructed to ensure strict law and order, with provisions for extra police deployment if necessary. If you suspect your name has been removed, it is advised to verify your status immediately on the ECI website and take necessary steps for reinstatement.
