IAF’s Giant Leap for Self-Reliance! New ‘Directorate of Aerospace Design’ (DAD) to Power Indigenous Tech

In a major strategic push to bolster indigenous defense capabilities, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has established a specialized unit called the ‘Directorate of Aerospace Design’ (DAD). Part of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission, this initiative aims to accelerate self-reliance in the aerospace sector and drastically reduce India’s dependence on foreign defense imports.

The DAD will serve as a critical interface between the IAF, DRDO, HAL, and private sector startups. Its primary focus will be the end-to-end design and development of next-generation aircraft systems, advanced weaponry, and high-tech avionics. Beyond conventional aviation, the unit is mandated to drive innovation in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and secure communication networks.

This landmark move is expected to transform India into a global aerospace hub while providing a massive platform for domestic defense manufacturers. Experts view the launch of DAD as a “watershed moment” that will propel India’s defense preparedness to new heights, ensuring that the nation develops its own cutting-edge aerial combat systems for the future.
