LPG Crisis Looms! Your Gas Connection Could Be Suspended If Inactive for 9 Months

The escalating geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region have started impacting global LPG supplies, raising fears of a significant gas shortage in India. To manage the available stock and prevent the misuse of subsidized cylinders, gas agencies across the country have introduced stringent measures targeting inactive accounts.
Under the new directives, any LPG connection that has not seen a single booking in the last nine months will be moved to the ‘suspended’ category. Authorities believe these dormant accounts are prone to black marketing or may qualify as ‘ghost connections.’ The primary objective is to ensure that genuine, active users receive their subsidies and refills without interruption during this supply crunch.
To reactivate a suspended service, customers must undergo a mandatory KYC (Know Your Customer) verification. This can be done by visiting the local gas agency with a copy of the Aadhaar card and bank passbook for biometric or facial recognition. For convenience, users can also complete e-KYC via the mobile apps or web portals of Indane, HP, or Bharat Gas using an Aadhaar-linked OTP. Once the data is updated, the booking facility will be restored within 24 to 48 hours.
