Chaos in Nandigram: BJP Protests at TMC Candidate’s Doorstep; Suvendu Joins Supporters with ‘Khol’

Nandigram is back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Just weeks before the 2026 Assembly polls, the high-stakes constituency witnessed violent clashes on Sunday in the Boyal-I Panchayat area. The tension erupted during a massive rally led by Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, leading to a direct confrontation between TMC and BJP cadres.

The flashpoint occurred when Suvendu’s procession reached the residence of TMC candidate Pabitro Kar. BJP workers reportedly started chanting “Chor Chor” (Thief) slogans and broke into an impromptu dance right outside the candidate’s gate. In a viral clip, Suvendu Adhikari himself was seen playing a traditional ‘Khol’ (drum) amidst the slogan-shouting. TMC supporters quickly retaliated, leading to a heated exchange and physical scuffles that forced the local police to intervene and push back the agitated crowds.

Visible irked by the chaos, Suvendu Adhikari made a controversial statement that has since gone viral. Speaking to reporters, he claimed, “I don’t need any security forces here; I alone will ‘garage’ these people and sweep them out of Nandigram.” This “garage” remark has been interpreted by the TMC as a direct threat of violence. While the police managed to de-escalate the situation for now, the incident has left Nandigram on a knife-edge, with security being beefed up in all sensitive pockets of Block 2.
