‘Bollywood Denied Me Opportunities,’ Priyamani Lashes Out at Hindi Film Industry; Points Fingers at Casting Bias!

National Award-winning actress Priyamani, known for her stellar performances in ‘The Family Man’ and ‘Jawan,’ has broken her silence on the step-motherly treatment she received from Bollywood. In a candid and explosive interview, the actress expressed her frustration over being overlooked by Hindi cinema for years, despite proving her mettle in the South.
Priyamani highlighted a deep-seated bias within the industry, stating that Bollywood often stereotyped South Indian actors into specific, limited roles. She pointed out that for a long time, the Hindi film fraternity failed to recognize her versatility, offering her only secondary characters or roles that required a particular accent. Without naming names, she took a direct swipe at the industry’s inner circles and casting systems that prioritize certain cliques over genuine talent. She noted that while Bollywood might have closed its doors on her initially, the rise of Pan-India cinema has finally forced the industry to acknowledge performers from across the border, though the scars of past negligence remain.
