Bengal Under Siege? Unprecedented 1920 Companies of Central Forces for Phase 1!

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has shifted into high gear for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections, planning a massive security deployment to prevent any repeat of past electoral violence. In a move that highlights the sensitivity of the state, the commission has decided to deploy a staggering 1,920 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) specifically for the first phase of polling.

As of now, 480 companies have already arrived in West Bengal and are actively conducting route marches across various districts to build voter confidence. This number is expected to swell to nearly 2,500 companies by the time the full election cycle is underway. Each company consists of approximately 100 personnel, meaning the state will effectively be under the watch of a quarter-million central security officers.

The strategy behind such a massive rollout is to ensure 100% booth coverage by central forces, eliminating any reliance on local police inside the voting perimeter. Alongside the boots on the ground, the ECI is also integrating technology like high-resolution drones and mandatory webcasting for real-time monitoring. For a state where political heat often turns into physical confrontations, this heavy deployment serves as a clear message from the Commission: free and fair polls are the only priority. With the first phase of voting fast approaching, the eyes of the nation remain fixed on how this high-security gamble plays out on the ground in Bengal.
