“It’s Murder, Not an Accident!” Suvendu Targets Mamata Over RG Kar Lift Scandal

A fatal lift accident at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has triggered a massive political showdown in West Bengal. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has launched a blistering attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, categorizing the incident as a “cold-blooded murder” rather than a mechanical failure. Targeting the Chief Minister, who also holds the Health portfolio, Adhikari demanded immediate accountability for the recurring lapses at the premier state-run facility.

In a series of scathing remarks, Suvendu Adhikari alleged that the crumbling infrastructure of RG Kar is a testament to the systematic failure of the state health department. “This is not a freak accident. It is a result of sheer negligence and corruption in hospital maintenance. The Chief Minister cannot escape her responsibility for the loss of an innocent life,” Adhikari stated. He also hinted at a potential conspiracy, questioning whether such incidents are being staged to divert attention from ongoing investigations into past crimes at the hospital.

The ruling TMC has dismissed Adhikari’s claims as “vulture politics,” accusing him of sensationalizing a tragic technical glitch. However, with the memory of the 2024 trainee doctor’s murder case still fresh, any mishap at RG Kar carries heavy political weight. As the 2026 Assembly elections draw closer, the opposition is effectively using this “lift scandal” to portray the state’s healthcare system as hazardous and inefficient. The incident has once again put the spotlight on the safety protocols of government hospitals, leaving the administration in a tight spot.
