‘No Mercy for Rapists!’ Candidate Roopa Ganguly Fires Salvo at CM Over Abhaya Case & Women’s Safety

The political temperature in West Bengal has hit a boiling point as the BJP announced Roopa Ganguly as its candidate for the Sonarpur South constituency. The former Rajya Sabha MP is set to lock horns with TMC’s sitting MLA Lovely Moitra in a high-profile contest. Shortly after the announcement, the veteran actress turned politician shared her vision for a “reformed Bengal” in an exclusive conversation.

Emphasizing her deep roots in Sonarpur, Roopa recalled buying her first home there for her parents. “People here know me; I will be available for them 24/7 with a dedicated office,” she promised. However, her tone turned sharp when discussing the RG Kar (Abhaya) case. Launching a scathing attack on the Chief Minister, she said, “It is shameful when a woman CM questions the character of a victim. Such remarks embolden criminals. Bengal has become a hub for human trafficking, and this must stop now.”

Roopa, who put a major Hindi film project on hold for the elections, stated that her goal is not power but a “Government for the People,” free from the ‘cut-money’ culture and middlemen. Supporting the decision of the RG Kar victim’s mother to contest, Roopa lauded her courage to fight for justice. For Roopa, the mission is clear: to replace the “TMC Government” with a true “West Bengal Government” focused on employment and safety.
