Death Knell for Bunkers! IAF to Procure 200 Israeli ‘ROCKS’ Missiles to Bolster Strike Power
In a massive leap toward enhancing its long-range precision strike capabilities, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to acquire 200 advanced ‘ROCKS’ air-to-ground missiles from Israel. The decision follows the successful test-firing of the missile from a frontline Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet. This strategic procurement is aimed at providing the IAF with the ability to destroy high-value, hardened targets like bunkers and command centers from significant standoff distances.
Developed by Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the ROCKS missile is designed to strike with pinpoint accuracy, even in GPS-denied environments. This makes it a formidable weapon against enemies utilizing electronic warfare and signal jamming. By adding 200 of these missiles to its arsenal, the IAF will be able to hit strategic targets deep inside enemy territory without crossing the Line of Control (LoC) or the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The deal is also expected to have a significant “Make in India” component, with plans for subsequent domestic manufacturing under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement. The ROCKS missile, known for its high-velocity trajectory and advanced image-processing seeker, ensures a high strike success rate against both stationary and re-locatable targets. Military analysts suggest that this acquisition will serve as a massive deterrent, significantly tilting the tactical balance in favor of India in any potential two-front conflict scenario.
