Hooghly’s Saptagram Turns into a Battlefield Over Wall Graffiti! Left Activists Attacked by TMC
As the political mercury rises in West Bengal ahead of the 2026 Assembly Elections, a violent clash erupted in the Saptagram constituency of Hooghly district over wall writing. The incident, which took place on Thursday, saw supporters of the CPI(M) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) engaging in a heated confrontation that reportedly turned bloody.
According to the CPI(M) local leadership, their party workers were painting slogans in support of their candidate when a group of TMC supporters arrived and demanded they stop. The Left alleges that the TMC men forcibly tried to white-wash the wall already occupied by the CPM. When the Left activists protested, they were allegedly assaulted with sticks and blunt objects. One CPM worker reportedly sustained serious injuries and had to be rushed to the nearest medical facility.
The TMC leadership in Hooghly has dismissed these allegations as “baseless political propaganda.” They countered by stating that the CPM was encroaching on walls that were already designated for TMC’s campaign. The clash has left the Chawalpatty area and neighboring pockets of Saptagram in a state of high tension. A large police contingent has been deployed to prevent further escalation. This “Wall War” in Hooghly serves as a grim reminder of the high-stakes political rivalry that defines the lead-up to the Bengal polls.
