Left Front Unveils 2nd List for WB Polls: Shanti Giri to Contest from High-Stakes Nandigram!

The Left Front in West Bengal has intensified its electoral preparations by releasing the second list of candidates for the upcoming 2026 Assembly Elections. During a press conference held on Thursday at the party’s headquarters on Alimuddin Street, the leadership announced names for 32 additional constituencies, following the first phase where 192 candidates were declared.

The most significant highlight of this list is the candidature of Shanti Giri from the high-profile Nandigram seat. This constituency, which has historically been a focal point of intense political battles, will now see a Left challenge led by Giri. In another key contest, the Left Front has fielded Parthapratim Biswas from the Tollygunge seat in Kolkata, while Jamal Hossain has been nominated as the CPI(M) candidate for the Raninagar constituency.

This announcement follows the earlier declaration by CPIML (Liberation), a Left associate, which named candidates for 10 seats. With the addition of these 32 seats, the Left Front is gradually covering the electoral map, focusing on a mix of academic backgrounds, grassroots activism, and local representation. Political observers suggest that the Left is attempting to consolidate its vote share by projecting “clean and fighting” faces against their rivals. The party intends to frame the election around socio-economic issues, and these newly announced candidates are expected to spearhead that narrative in their respective regions.
