24 Hours Since Mamata’s DA Announcement: No Official Notification Yet; Bengal Staff in Limbo!
Even 24 hours after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s major announcement regarding the clearance of Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears, the West Bengal government is yet to issue a formal notification. This administrative silence has sparked widespread confusion and skepticism among state government employees, who were expecting immediate clarity following the high-profile declaration. On Sunday, just an hour before the Assembly Election schedule was announced, the CM had promised that ROPA 2009 arrears would be paid starting March 2026.
However, the absence of an official memorandum from the Finance Department as of Monday night has raised eyebrows. In standard procedure, such announcements are followed by a swift gazette notification or a finance department order to facilitate implementation. The delay has led many to wonder if the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by the Election Commission has created a technical hurdle for the state government to formalize the decision.
Employee unions, which have been protesting for years over parity with Central DA, remain cautious. They argue that without a written order, the announcement remains nothing more than a verbal commitment. As the suspense builds, lakhs of government employees, teachers, and pensioners are eagerly waiting for Nabanba to provide the legal document that confirms their long-awaited benefits. All eyes are now on the Finance Department for further developments.
