Left Front’s Big Surprise! Bikash Ranjan to Contest from Jadavpur, Tamanna’s Mother Filed in Kaliganj

The Left Front in West Bengal took a decisive step ahead of the 2026 Assembly Elections by announcing its candidate list for 192 seats on Monday. The list is a strategic blend of administrative experience and grassroots activism, featuring prominent legal minds alongside firebrand youth leaders who have been at the forefront of recent protests.

A Battle of Emotions in Kaliganj: The most heart-wrenching inclusion in the list is Sabina Yasmin, the mother of young Tamanna Khatun, who was killed in a bomb blast following the 2025 Kaliganj by-poll violence. By fielding Sabina, the CPIM aims to turn the election into a fight for justice against political violence, challenging the ruling party on its home turf in Nadia district.

Heavyweights and Youth Brigade: Veteran lawyer and Rajya Sabha MP Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya has been nominated for the high-stakes Jadavpur seat. Jadavpur, known for its intellectual and political history, will witness a tough fight as the Left tries to reclaim its lost bastion. The list also boosts the party’s “Youth First” policy, naming popular leaders like Meenakshi Mukherjee, Dipsita Dhar, Kaltan Dasgupta, and Dhrubajyoti Saha. Kaltan Dasgupta’s nomination is particularly notable as he recently gained national attention during his arrest following the RG Kar hospital protests.

The Road Ahead: Left Front Chairman Biman Bose stated that the 192 seats were decided after thorough discussions with alliance partners. The inclusion of academic professionals, social activists, and victims of violence suggests that the Left is shifting its focus towards a more empathetic and accountable form of politics. As the campaign intensifies, all eyes will be on whether this mix of “Guru-Disciple” legacy and “Victim-to-Vanguard” strategy can disrupt the TMC-BJP binary in Bengal.
