Abrar Ahmed in Sunrisers Leeds, Viral Claims of Rohit Sharma ‘Unfollowing’ the Franchise Debunked!
The auction for England’s ‘The Hundred’ league has sparked significant controversy after the Sunrisers-owned franchise, ‘Sunrisers Leeds,’ signed Pakistani cricketer Abrar Ahmed. His past negative remarks against India have fueled outrage among Indian fans.
Debunking the Viral Claim: Amid the uproar, rumors circulated that Rohit Sharma had unfollowed the franchise on Instagram in protest. However, this is false. Rohit Sharma does not follow any franchise other than his current team, Mumbai Indians, on Instagram. He never followed Sunrisers in the first place, rendering the ‘unfollow’ claim entirely baseless.
BCCI’s Stance: Responding to the fan backlash, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla clarified that the board has no jurisdiction over this matter. He stated, “This is a foreign league, and the franchise has made its own decision. We have no role to play in this.” Under ECB guidelines, discrimination based on nationality is prohibited in ‘The Hundred,’ which allowed the franchise to proceed with the signing.
