BJP gears up for poll battle; Candidate list to be released in phases

With the assembly election schedule now official, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to release its candidate list in multiple phases rather than all at once. According to party sources, the names for approximately 150 seats have already been finalized following a marathon meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence.

Key leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, Dilip Ghosh, Shankar Ghosh, and Agnimitra Paul, are confirmed to be on the list. While most sitting BJP MLAs are expected to retain their tickets, there is significant speculation regarding Kharagpur MLA Hiran Chatterjee, with rumors suggesting Dilip Ghosh might contest from there instead. Furthermore, discussions are ongoing about the possibility of Suvendu Adhikari contesting from both Nandigram and the Bhawanipur constituency. The party is focusing on seasoned organizational leaders and popular public figures, such as Dr. Narayan Banerjee, while steering clear of last-minute party switchers. An official announcement is expected shortly.
