How to calculate your DA arrears? A step-by-step guide for employees

In a major relief for West Bengal state government employees, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced the payment of 25% of the pending Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears, in compliance with a Supreme Court order. This announcement, made via social media, is being hailed by employees as a victory for their long-standing movement and protests.

How to calculate your DA arrears:

  • Step 1: Determine your total Basic Pay (Basic Pay + Grade Pay) for the specific period.
  • Step 2: Identify the percentage difference between the DA you currently receive and the DA you are entitled to based on court directives.
  • Step 3: Multiply your monthly basic pay by this percentage difference. Sum these amounts for all relevant months to get the total arrears.
  • Step 4: Calculate 25% of this total to find the specific amount you will receive by March 31.

While the CM has made the announcement, employees are currently awaiting an official government notification. Meanwhile, the committee headed by Indu Malhotra, tasked with addressing the remaining 75% of the arrears, has already submitted its report to the Supreme Court.
