Delhi Summons Top Bengal Officials! Is a New Centre-State Showdown Brewing in North Bengal?

A fresh administrative conflict has erupted between the Centre and the West Bengal government over the deputation of two high-ranking officials. The Union Home Ministry has reportedly sought the central deputation of Darjeeling District Magistrate Preeti Goyal and Siliguri Police Commissioner C. Sudhakar.

This move follows allegations of protocol lapses during President Droupadi Murmu’s recent visit to North Bengal. While the Centre aims to bring these officers under its direct wing for further inquiry, the State government has responded with a swift counter-move. Nabanna has issued transfer orders for these officials instead of releasing them for central duties.

This development highlights the ongoing friction between the Mamata Banerjee administration and the Central government regarding the control of IAS and IPS officers. As both sides remain firm, this bureaucratic tug-of-war is expected to intensify the political climate in the state.
