Weather Alert: Rainfall and Storms Likely Across Bengal Until Tuesday
Following sudden rainfall on Thursday evening in Kolkata and various districts, the Alipore Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert due to significant moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal. Favourable conditions for thunderstorms and rain are expected to persist across West Bengal until next Tuesday.
Rainfall Forecast: Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, Alipurduar, Darjeeling, and West Bardhaman. Light to moderate rain is likely in Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Birbhum, Howrah, and East Bardhaman. Additionally, alerts for light to dense fog have been issued for parts of Darjeeling and West Bardhaman.
Impact on Temperature: A cyclonic circulation is currently active over Bangladesh and neighbouring areas, extending up to 1.5 km above sea level. Coupled with a westerly trough in the lower troposphere, these systems will likely lead to a drop in temperature by 2-3°C in North Bengal over the next few days. Conversely, South Bengal may initially experience a rise in temperature. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and take necessary precautions during the expected period of inclement weather.
