Indigo Airlines Under Fire; Passenger Death Adds to Mounting Frustration Over Massive Flight Cancellations

A 60-year-old passenger traveling to Bengaluru with his family faced a tragic end on Friday morning at the Kolkata Airport. Shortly after arriving at the airport, the passenger reported severe chest pain. Despite immediate medical attention provided by the airport’s medical team, his condition continued to deteriorate. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The sudden loss of life has plunged the passenger’s family into deep grief and shock.

This incident has further fueled public anger against IndiGo, which has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons lately. The airline has recently faced a massive operational breakdown, resulting in the cancellation of 76 flights from Kolkata Airport alone. Passengers, left stranded and helpless, have expressed extreme dissatisfaction, alleging that the airline failed to provide prior notification regarding cancellations, leaving them to find out only upon reaching the airport.

Such emergencies are becoming a growing concern in the aviation sector. Recently, a German national, M. Buhler, traveling from Frankfurt to Hanoi on a Vietnam Airlines flight, suffered a brain hemorrhage, forcing an emergency landing at Kolkata Airport. Despite being admitted to a private hospital on the EM Bypass, he eventually succumbed to his condition. These back-to-back medical emergencies and operational lapses highlight the urgent need for enhanced medical emergency protocols and better passenger management systems by airlines and airport authorities.
