Big Relief for Mahua Moitra? SC Pauses Order Allowing CBI Chargesheet

The Supreme Court has stayed a portion of the Delhi High Court’s order that permitted the CBI to file a chargesheet against Mahua Moitra in the high-profile ‘cash-for-query’ case.

The case, initiated following allegations by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, had seen the Lokpal authorizing the CBI to proceed with a chargesheet. A division bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi has now directed Mahua Moitra, the CBI, and Nishikant Dubey to submit their responses regarding the matter.

The legal tussle involves serious allegations of Moitra accepting money and gifts in exchange for asking questions in Parliament. With the Supreme Court’s stay on the High Court’s earlier decision, the legal proceedings have entered a critical phase. All eyes are now on the upcoming submissions, as the court decides the next steps in this politically sensitive case.
