From YouTube to the Big Screen, ‘Short Flicks-Screen and Speak’ Launches in Kolkata

Short films are stepping out of the digital shadows of YouTube to grace the big screens of Kolkata. A new initiative, ‘Short Flicks-Screen and Speak’ (Edition One), is set to launch on April 10, aiming to provide a dedicated exhibition platform for short films and music videos that often struggle to find an audience beyond film festivals.

This non-competitive initiative focuses on showcasing 10–12 selected films per edition, fostering a deeper connection between independent filmmakers and viewers. With content ranging from narratives featuring acclaimed actors like Debolina Dutta, Devshankar Halder, and Chandan Sen, the platform seeks to cater to modern audiences accustomed to short-form content while maintaining high cinematic quality.

Renowned actress Debolina Dutta praised the initiative, stating that it resolves the long-standing uncertainty regarding the future of short films. Manasi Sinha added that this platform could be a game-changer for independent directors in an era dominated by short reels. Organized by ‘Short Flicks Entertainment’ in collaboration with the ‘International Kolkata Short Film Festival’ (IKSFF), the event will feature ‘Behind The Short’ sessions, allowing creators to interact with audiences. Importantly, the screenings are free for all, inviting families and friends to experience the magic of short cinema together.
