Sexual harassment case: Advocate Firdous Shamim gets protection from arrest till March 31

In a significant development regarding the sexual harassment case against Advocate Firdous Shamim, the Calcutta High Court has granted him interim protection from arrest until March 31. Justice Joy Sengupta issued the order during a hearing on Wednesday.

The case stems from allegations by a junior lawyer who accused Shamim of molestation and making obscene remarks within his office. Following her complaint, the Hare Street Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of outraging modesty, sexual harassment, and criminal intimidation. Shamim, who is associated with the CPM, has consistently denied all accusations, labelling them as false. While the police investigation continues, this court order provides the advocate with temporary relief from potential arrest.
