LPG Crisis: Mamata Demands Statement from PM Modi & Amit Shah in Parliament; TMC to Protest on Monday
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has intensified her attack on the Central Government over the deepening LPG (cooking gas) crisis. Following a high-level review meeting at Nabanna, she demanded a formal statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament. To escalate the pressure, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has announced a massive state-wide protest, including a major rally in Kolkata next Monday.
Questioning the Center’s lack of foresight, Mamata Banerjee pointed out that the government was well aware of the escalating conflict in the Middle East. “The government knew the war was ongoing. They had intelligence and global reports. Yet, why were no alternative arrangements or buffer stocks made for LPG?” she asked. She accused the Modi administration of being insensitive to the plight of millions of households struggling with empty cylinders and soaring prices.
The Chief Minister has directed her party MPs to raise the issue aggressively in the ongoing Parliament session. Meanwhile, on the ground, the TMC’s women’s wing will lead demonstrations across blocks starting Monday. Mamata has also ordered local administrations to crack down on hoarding and ensure fair distribution of the available stock. As the LPG shortage becomes a nationwide concern, Mamata Banerjee is positioning herself at the forefront of the protest, making it a pivotal point of confrontation between the State and the Center.
